Start engine and let the old fluid drain and fresh fluid sucked into the transmission. If I can manage, I plan to shift the gear P->R->N->D1->D2->D3->D4->D5->N->R->P. Shut off engine when 1 gallon of old fluid comes out and same amount of fresh fluid gets in. Dump old fluid, add fresh fluid and repeat step 5. Out of nowhere the transmission starts blowing fluid and smoke is trailing behind. The tach is reading 3000-4000rpm to maintain 50mph. As I slow down and get off the exit the tach starts reading normal again but still the smoke.

May 17, 2009 · there are a couple of things that will cause this..1..too full of fluid..uderstand that trans fluid expands quiet a bit when it get hot.....2,,the vent on the top of the trans could be clogged,,3 if you have built the trans,the pumpgasket could be on backwards blocking the vent hole...use a cloth hanger and ram it through the vent ,, thanks

I followed the vent tube and I don't think it's a vent for the transfer case. I think it's a vent for the transmission and just runs over the transfer case. The fluid leaking out is red and l believe this is transmission fluid and not the autotrac fluid. The truck seems to drive fine and I checked the transmission fluid level and it looks good.

Jul 28, 2015 · I can only think of two reasons that fluid would come out of the dipstick tube in large amounts. 1. Fluid overheated. 2. Engine coolant leaking into Transmission Fluid Cooler. Since you were not driving it, and from the large amount you reported, I'd guess #2, the cooler has an internal leak. If that is the case, you need to get it out and flush it with fresh fluid !ASAP! If the coolant soaks into the clutch surfaces, they are trash.

Exhaust valve: Air heard hissing out of the tailpipe, turbocharger or exhaust manifold means an exhaust valve leak. Piston rings: Whistling or hissing out of the PCV valve, oil filler cap hole or dipstick tube means the air is pushing past the rings. Suspect ring or cylinder wall wear. If the trans is blowing fluid out the top of the dipstick tube you probably have it overfilled. Too much fluid can create a pressure in the trans and blow it out the tube and it can also blow out the seals in the transmission. It it were me, I would drain the trans and refill it. If torque signal fluid builds up too much pressure (tune. Worn valve. Epc, etc) then it will unseat the trans go ball and exhaust the fluid. This way you don't build up too much pressure and blow out snap rings or seals etc. When ATF heats up, it expands greatly, For your transmission to overflow out the dipstick may indicate an overheating issue. Just bought an '84 Chevrolet 4X4 with a TH350 tranny. Runs and shifts great but now it's started blowing tranny fluid out the dipstick. I did a search and it seems everybody thinks it's the vent tube. I blew the breather out (and blew tranny fluid everywhere) and put a dipstick with a good rubber seal on it but it's still blowing fluid out.

I changed the transmission filter on my L3200 to a newer version with a magnet. When I did, some transmission oil came out. I dont know how much came out so I estimated how much to add. After running the tractor I noticed some oil blowout from the small back vent tube (I think its a vent tube) near the seat.

The dipstick should have a 90 deg thumb operated latch to hold the stick into the tube. Operating the latch should compress the gasket at the top of the stick. This gasket, and the compression latch, are there to keep the fluid from blowing out the tube. Maybe the gasket is leaking.

Pull out the transmission dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert it fully. Pull the dipstick out again and look at the markings to see if the fluid is within the operating range.

Also make sure there are two orings on the case end of the filter pickup tube. It can pull air in there and foam the fluid, which will also let it puke out the dipstick or vent possibly. You can run a small piece of wire into the vent tube to make sure it's open. If all else fails it may be a front pump machining issue but that's not common.

Nov 23, 2010 · There's fluid on the steering gear boot, which could be blowing from fluid source above or forward. You may want to inspect area around the transmission fill port on top of transmission - underneath air-intake tube - to see if the service folks spilled fluid in that area.

Apparently, the black cap is just to keep dirt out. They said to check the top vent first by blowing air down the dipstick tube with a compressor. I did this and I could feel air coming out from around the black cap, which is a loose cap that turns. The next thing they suggested was to see if the cooling lines were restricted.

I would assume I have an internal problem causing the pressure to blow th dip stick out because the vent is clear and like I said before the filter looks fine other than the fillings. I did find something odd. The tranny is a B&M unit and the filter is attached to a long metal tube with about a 4x4 filter bolted to the pickup tube.
